Felt Maker Patti Barker Wins Award at the Port Townsend Wearable Art Show

When Patti Barker created “Dragon Skin Ensemble” as a first time participant in the Port Townsend Wearable Art Show Saturday, May 11, she wouldn’t allow herself to dream of winning an award, especially the coveted Peer Award. This is where all the artists and models vote for their favorite piece of wearable art. When they called her name, she described the experience as “surreal.”

Dragon Skin Ensemble was created using double-faced nuno felt techniques, with inclusions, then hand-painted with dye. “I should have known something was up when the other felt makers in the show were asking me how I made it” said Patti. The ensemble was inspired by myth, folklore, fantasy and, of course, dragons. Its purpose is to empower women and girls everywhere. Its message is “you are stronger than you know.” You can be sure Patti is hooked and is already working on concepts for next year.

Seattle-Area SDA Leaders Move On

All good things must come to an end. After several years, Debbie and Terry are resigning from program planning the Seattle monthly SDA meetings effective this June. We are looking for one or two members to take over planning the meetings from September to June and to secure a meeting place. It’s easy to do and support will be provided. It’s been rewarding, and a fun way to stay in touch with our members. Email either Terry tlbartography@yahoo.com or Debbie deliasen@gmail.com for more info.
