Pat Herkal at Collective Visions Gallery

“Seahorse” by Par Herkal

Pat Herkal’s 3D soft sculpture, Seahorse, was juried into the 2021 CVG Show, an annual Washington state competition. The fully beaded 10″x3″ piece hangs from monofilament and a swivel that allows it to gently turn. It is completely hand sewn. The show closes February 26.

The Bremerton gallery is open Wednesday – Saturday, 11am – 4pm. 135 Washington artists are represented.

Glenda Guinn Gilles at Violet Protest

VIOLET PROTEST SQUARE OF THE WEEK – made by Glenda Guinn Gilles from Kirkland, WA – Besides the exquisite embroidery detail, this square reflects the desire for unity after these turbulent times – red and blue mixing together to form a unified core. Each of us occupies our separate life with its concerns, hopes, and challenges. But if we can find a way to face our challenges together, our nation can blend all its beautiful diversity, nurture the treasures we possess and build a nation that truly reflects the America we’ve all heard about and believe can be possible. https://www.facebook.com/thevioletprotest/

About the Violet Protest “Whether we weave, knit, crochet, quilt, or embroider all 26,750 of these squares — through this social action, and from every corner of America; we as makers of all political persuasions, believe we can employ our willing spirit and our talents to contribute to healing divisions that threaten our country. This collection of textile squares will be first displayed at Phoenix Art Museum, in the Spring of 2021, before they are sent to the new 117th Congress by late 2021.

Focused on the values we hold dear as Americans, rather than any political beliefs, the color violet symbolizes the literal combination of red and blue, long held as symbols of our nation’s differing ideologies. Our common goal is to send a physical message of friendly protest through this colossal visual expression to demonstrate that if we as citizens are willing to come together, so then must our elected officials”

Online Printmaking & Collage

We will explore techniques using your own printed imagery to create inspirational Collage artworks! Learn the basics of creating monotype, collagraph, thermofax and relief printed images. All of this can be done without a press, using water based, slow drying GOLDEN acrylic paints. These methods create unique results; the pressure of printing creates texture and pattern not possible when painting directly on paper. Several examples & demonstrations will show how these prints can then be used in Collage & which products work best for gluing various weights of paper. Gain a broad understanding of product, material, method, tips & tricks.
