Cameron Ann Mason Indiegogo Burning Man Campaign

Cameron Ann Mason is excited to be working on a project called Chroma Commons for this year’s Burning Man with the fabulous crew of her collective, Dusty Nation. Dan Ba Bamm Thornton has created some terrific videos and Liz Lucy has put together an Indiegogo campaign that explain the project and raise funds in support. Please click the link to learn more. Donna Lee Dowdney News

Donna Lee Dowdney won the cash award at Paint Out Poulsbo June 1.

She has seven mixed media pieces hanging at the Jefferson County Hospital in Port Townsend, June to August, 2019.

She will exhibit work at the 60th Anniversary of the Kingston Fine Arts Festival, July 26 to 28. The Preview Party Reception will be on July 25 at 7 p.m. with live music, appetizers, silent auction and wine at the Village Green Community Center 26159 Dulay Road NE, Kingston, WA 98346. The art show continues through July 28 and ends at 4 p.m.

About Glorious Sunset, she says, “This fabric art piece focuses on a flamboyant evening sky, colorful reflections on the water, distant mountains and trees and the shoreline awaiting exploration.”

About Wandering Microcosm, she says, “This art piece explorers simulated microscopic shapes, textures, intricately layered networks, and colors. Organic grown fascinates me as I view its designs exploding, imploding, spiraling, branching, and wandering. My designs simulate the universe at an imagined microscopic level.”

6-24-2019 Surface Design Group Meeting

SDA members in attendance: Sydney Hole, Alana Koehler, Dorothy McGuinness and Tesi Vaara.

NEXT MEETING: Monday, July 29, 2019, at the Skagit Valley Co-op in Mt. Vernon, Room 310. Meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.

Tesi’s Creative Clothing class project was to use sheers. She decided to make Gradient Pojagi Panels for her windows. She also shared a beautiful sweater vest she knitted and she finished her collaborative quilt project.

 

Dorothy shared her Byzantine Basket and will be in a show in Corvalis at the Art Center August 15 – September 28 called Tradition Turns Contemporary, Quilt County. Dorothy McGuinness basketry, Jennifer Salzman photography, Ann Kresge, prints.

Sydney is collecting materials for her Kid’s Camp, August 5 – 8, 10 am to 4 pm, ages 8 – 14 years. It will be held at the Garden Club in La Conner and is sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Quilt and Fiber Arts Museum. She is also getting ready for a trip to Peru! Can’t wait to see what fabulous fiber arts she brings back.

Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry News

Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry is in Shifting Tides, a SAQA exhibition about the Pacific environment, which opened Wednesday, June 26  at the Pacific Northwest Quilt & Fiber Art Museum, 703 South Second Street, La Conner, WA. Her quilt Splash will be part of this traveling exhibition. Opening reception was Saturday, June 29. Show runs June 26 to September 29. Click here to see the whole traveling schedule.

Not Only Decoration, a not-for-profit artist collective, is putting together a show for an exhibition in their town of origin, Idar-Oberstein, Germany, at the Villa Bengel from July 4 to October 6. It features 39 works from artists from 22 different nations.

Wearing Change is the fourth exhibition from Not Only Decoration, showing works that take a fresh view on contemporary jewelry. The critical topics covered by this exhibition express varied issues within the fields of social, humanitarian, environmental matters and even those that have a critical view on the jewelry industry itself.

The opening on July 4 included a performance work by Laura Jack.

SDA-WA member Deborah Ann will have an exhibition entitled In the Moment, at Oak Hollow Gallery in Chalet Mall, 5631 Summitview Ave. Yakima WA

The exhibition runs from August 16 through the end of September. The artist reception is August 16th from 5-7 pm. The exhibit is a combination of fabric wall art and mixed media sculptures. Deborah Ann says, “My art subject matter is a reflection of the world around me. It’s the way I see the people and places in my everyday life.”
