Whidbey Island Textile Studios Open Oct 8-9

Several textile artists are participating in this year’s Whidbey Island Tour of artists’ studios happening the week-end of October 8-9, 2011 from 10 am-5 pm each day.  It is free to the public.  For full information, including descriptions of the artists and the maps and directions to the studios, click here.  Among the textile artists participating is Mary Burks, Janis Saunders, Cheryl Lawrence, Anne Niles Davenport, Debra Calkins, Nan Leaman and Zia Gipson.

Additionally on the island, a number of artists’ studios are now open year round.  For information, click here.  Mary Burks’ studio is now open on the weekends from Friday-Sunday 1-5 pm, but please call ahead.

The Gail Harker Creative Studies Center has moved .

The Center’s new home is a converted barn in La Conner, WA.  Classrooms are located on the first level, and there are plans for new office spaces, a new library and an on-site gallery.

Classes began in July and several new classes have been added to the calendar.

Try the Anacortes Art Festival this Weekend.

Bergner will be showing in The Anacortes Arts Festival exhibition entitled, Then/Now.

The exhibit features the original work that is in the

Columnar 2 by Lanny Bergner

festival’s permanent collection along with more current work by the artist. Both SDA members have several pieces in the show. The exhibition closes Aug 7 at 5:00 and is open during the three days of the AAF street fair.
