Gwen Lowery Receives People’s Choice Award at the Schack Art Center

SDA member Gwen Lowery’s piece “Corona 1” was voted best in show by viewers, winning the People’s Choice Award at the Schack Art Center for SDA-Washington’s “Fiber Fusion” Show, which ran March 9 to April 15. Congratulations, Gwen.

“Gathering: Six Northwest Basketry Artists” at Spaceworks Gallery

“Gathering: Six Northwest Basketry Artists” is an exhibition of six basketry artists who are members of the National Basketry Organization and they represent the diversity of traditional and non-traditional approaches to the making of Pacific Northwest basketry. The works are created out of a diverse range of materials using a variety of basketry techniques. The participating artists are Lanny Bergner, Jill Nordfors Clark, Katherine Lewis, Dona Anderson, Danielle Bodine, and Peeta Tinay. The window display is at Spaceworks Gallery on the corner of 11th and Broadway in Tacoma, WA. This exhibition is in conjunction with “Tradition and Innovation in Basketry IX: National Basketry Organization 2017 Conference” held in Tacoma from July 18–22, 2017. http://nationalbasketry.org/

The exhibition will be on display from April 5 through July 2017.

“NOW: Beauty and Paradox” at MUSEO Gallery

Ten Northwest artists explore contemporary issues through beautifully crafted paintings, sculpture, mixed media and ceramic works designed to express deeper paradoxical meaning. Each artist employs her unique artistic expression: ironic, whimsical, even outraged to create interest and engagement.  Collaboration between Museo Gallery and Nancy Loorem Adams.

SDA members Nancy Loorem Adams, Danielle Bodine, Natalie Olsen, and Patricia Resseguie will be exhibiting their artwork along with Dona Anderson, Jill Nordfors Clark, Maxine Martell, Jane Richlovsky, Inge Roberts and Sande Wascher-James. Please join the artists for the opening reception Saturday, May 6, 5–7 p.m. The show runs through May 29, 2017.

Arisa Brown Receives Scholarship from the Northwest Designer Craftsmen

SDA member Arisa Brown received a scholarship from the Northwest Designer Craftsmen to attend the National Basketry conference this summer. “Tradition and Innovation in Basketry IX” will be at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, from July 18 to 23, 2017.
