Adding and Subtracting Layers on Textiles

Pratt Fine Arts Center
  Friday-Sunday, 10am-6pm, 9/30-10/2/2011

Working with MX dyes and discharge, the removal of color, we will alternate layers to create complexity and depth of color on fabric. Shibori binding, organic pastes, and physical resist techniques will be used, each method creating its own characteristic marks. Techniques covered are easily grasped yet endlessly variable. Use of discharge agents including bleach, thiourea dioxide, and other products will be covered while emphasizing safe studio practices. This workshop emphasizes process and experimentation, learning to control technique while celebrating the happy accident. Prerequisite: None

Two Great Felt Workshops Coming Up!

SDA member, Tricia Stackle is offering two wonderful workshops in Sculptural Felt and Felted Clothing.  This is a great opportunity to take your felt to a whole new level.

Feltmaking is an exciting media growing in popularity both in the art, craft, and design fields due to its transformative properties and delightful tactility. I have been working with the ancient, renewable resource, wool, in my own design and art practice for a few years now and am excited to be able to offer two exciting workshops to share my experience with feltmaking and teach new techniques in both sculpture and fashion to interested and eager artists and craftspeople looking to learn about this media for the first time or as experienced makers.
