Artists interested in submitting their work should read the complete call to artists on our website. Deadline for submissions is August 15, 2016.

Our own member Debra Calkins has put out a call for art:

83% of the victims of the sex slave trade in America are US citizens. 40% of them are children. Unmade Bed is an exhibit about sexual trafficking which would include the work of artists; their reactions, feelings, and thoughts on this inhumane practice. I would also like to invite those who would consider expressing the denial around this topic. Art carries powerful messages and has healing power. We hold in our hands, hearts and minds the ability to stand up to this injustice.

This will be a traveling exhibit with 3 – 5 venues. Each of the venues will be two days to four days. The first venue is at WICA (Whidbey Island Center for the Arts) in Langley, WA on Whidbey Island opening on October 7, 2016. The traveling will be completed by the end of 2017.

It’s SPRING!!! Time to clean out your studio, your book shelves, your supplies!

Would you like to par down some of the items in your studio you never use, have duplicate copies or never-to-be-used yarns/material/notions?  How about doing it and benefiting a great local fiber arts program and getting to get a tax write-off at the same time?

What to donate

  • Books
  • Tools and equipment. Please identify what it is for if it is not obvious.
  • Dyes and paints IF they are still usable and half remains in the container.
  • Threads and yarns, IF there is enough to be used.
  • Fabrics, at least a quarter of a yard for commercial fabrics or any size scraps for hand-dyed material. Please mark with yardage and width for 1/4 yard and above.
  • Usable art supplies.

You can Bring your donations this Saturday, May 9 to the CQA/SDA meeting and Christina Fairley Erickson will take them for you.  Please make a note of your name, address and resale value of the donated goods, if you’d like a tax receipt sent to you.

Then, put the Summer Solstice Supply Sale on your calendar!  Saturday and Sunday, June 20 & 21, 2015, 10-5, at Gwen Lowery Studio, 129 W First, Seattle, WA (near Seattle Center.)

Now is your chance to clean your studio, pass on the unused treasures, find great additions at fantastic prices, and support the Gail Harker Center for Creative Arts, as all proceeds from the sale will go to the Center.*  If you can’t bring your items this Saturday, you can arrange to drop them off at Gwen’s studio in Seattle or the Gail Harker Center in La Conner.
