WA SDA Holiday Sale Opportunity

snowflake3cHow would you like to be able to display and sell artwork at one of the premiere shopping areas on the Eastside during one of the biggest shopping days of the year?  In conjunction with the Fiber Fusion exhibition at the VALA Art Center,  WA SDA would love to have a holiday sale on December 3, the day of “Redmond Lights”.  (Link to: http://redmondlights.com/ ) Redmond Lights includes a Luminary walk with ends at Redmond Town Center.  Musical entertainment, family activities, and the City hall tree lighting are all part of the event.

If interested, we need one or more WA-SDA members to organize and run this one-day sale to sell SDA artists’ work. Organizer(s) will receive a share in commission on sales.  Smaller pieces ($20-80) are recommended as being the most salable.

If interested, contact us by October 9 at event.surfacedesignwa@gmail.com

Call for a volunteer to teach a 2 hour class in Redmond

Hi SDA-WA!  The Fiber Fusion show will soon be traveling to Redmond where it will reside at VALA.  In conjunction with the show moving to VALA/Redmond, we will have several opportunities to participate in related events.  The first opportunity is to teach (or take!) a class at the Redmond Senior Center.    We will post more about the class once it’s finalized.  If you’re interested in teaching a class, please see the call below!

Call for teachers:

We are looking for a SDA member volunteer to teach a free 2 hour community class/ demonstration in conjunction with the Fiber Fusion exhibition in Redmond. The class will be held at the Redmond Sr Center in a classroom with a sink, so wet processes are possible. The Senior Center has reserved Wednesday November 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for this event. This is an excellent opportunity to try out a class idea, generate potential students for a longer paid class you’re offering, or get some teaching experience on your resume.

Deadline for proposals is Wednesday August 24 at 7 pm. Please send a short description of what you will do / offer and a very short description of yourself. If chosen, these will be published in the Redmond Parks & Recreation catalogue. Please send to event.surfacedesignwa@gmail.com

An amazing opportunity for you to work with Lucia Neare

Lucia Neare is an acclaimed multidisciplinary artist: a classical singer, director, designer, sculptor, large-scale producer, and teacher. She is artistic director of Lucia Neare’s Theatrical Wonders, a Seattle-based company that creates large-scale site-specific works transforming familiar or forgotten urban spaces into ephemeral dreamscapes.  Lucia is Redmond’s Artist in Residence for 2014.
Check her website, it’s amazing!  http://www.lucianeare.org

Lucia
SHE NEEDS OUR HELP!!

For May 2014 Lucia is creating an outdoor extravaganza which will include mice on unicycles, swing dancing bakers, a May pole and 20′ golden eggs!!  Want to be part of this!  I certainly do.  She has specifically asked SDA  for our help, she needs creative people with a flair for fabric, us!  There are two opportunities…

1.  Lucia needs 6 – 10 volunteers to work on the day of the production, May 3, to help with set dressing, costume etc.  No special skills needed, just your artistic flair!

2.  Lucia urgently needs help to create large woven/knitted/crocheted (method is undecided yet) cradles in which the enormous golden eggs will be carried.  You will work in Lucia’s studio in Redmond, help design and create the props.  This is a wonderful opportunity to work on a large scale piece of public performance art.

If you are interested in either of the 2 opportunities, please email me as soon as possible.  Since the performance is May, I need to let Lucia know really quickly whether we can help her out.
